If it's not defined, it'll fail like this: *** sendmsg in ospf_write failed to 224.0.0.5, id 0, off 0, len 64, interface en0, mtu 1500: Invalid argument Which is caused by reordering iph->ip_len in sockopt_iphdrincl_swab_htosys.
